I’ve had a lot of oddjobs in my life. One of them was working in the warehouse of a medical company that made operating room tables. Every night I would come home with sore forearms, sore quads, sore everything.
This didn’t pair well with my insomnia, something I’ve struggled with all my life. If your job is to lift heavy things for 8 hours a day a bad night's sleep will destroy you. Your muscles don’t heal properly. Your immune system is weakened. And the fatigue puts you at risk of dropping 100lb equipment when you’re on the clock.
After a few days of zombie-walking through my shift, I didn’t just crave for a good night’s sleep. I lusted for it.
And that gave me an idea: What if you designed your life around sleep?
Everyone knows how important sleep is but all these business influencers go about it the wrong way. I’m not talking about “Get 8 hours of sleep so you can accomplish more during the day”. That's still treating work as the goal and sleep as a productivity hack.
What if you treated sleep itself as the goal? Everything else comes second. The bed is the king and your diet, exercise, and phone habits are royal subjects that must bow down to it.
